{"id":1323,"date":"2024-04-14T22:50:51","date_gmt":"2024-04-14T21:50:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/chromosome.ie\/?page_id=1323"},"modified":"2026-04-10T22:40:18","modified_gmt":"2026-04-10T21:40:18","slug":"welcome","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/chromosome.ie\/gae\/","title":{"rendered":"F\u00e1ilte go dt\u00ed an tIonad don Bhitheola\u00edocht Chr\u00f3mas\u00f3im."},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"has-text-align-justify has-regular-font-size\">The Centre for Chromosome Biology (CCB) at the University of Galway hosts a highly collaborative network of researchers investigating topics linked to the biology of genomes (see <a href=\"https:\/\/chromosome.ie\/about\/our-story\/\">Our Story<\/a>). <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-justify has-regular-font-size\">The centre comprises 13 core and associated groups with over 50 researchers and support staff, anchored in the Biomedical Sciences building (<a href=\"https:\/\/chromosome.ie\/about\/info\/\">more info<\/a>).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-justify has-regular-font-size\">We are interested in the molecular mechanisms underlying chromosome structure and function at the molecular and cytogenetic level. This includes areas such as replication, repair, evolution, and chromatin structure which are fundamental to genetics and epigenetics with important roles in cancer and disease (see <a href=\"https:\/\/chromosome.ie\/about\/chromosomes\/\">Chromosomes<\/a>).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-justify has-regular-font-size\">Our expertise includes technologies and models for studying chromosome biology at the molecular, cellular, genomic and organismal level. We have a focused and dynamic research environment where international researchers can interact to understand the biological significance and medical applications of chromosome structure and dynamics
